Hi, I’m Karen Bleakley.
I have twin sons, T1 and T2, (which stands for twin one and twin two as they were known during sonograms) a daughter (E) and a husband (known affectionately as Husband or Hubby). I also have a love of travel and adventure. In September 2014, we moved from Hampshire in the UK to a northern suburb in Brisbane, Australia. Life is hectic, but fantastic so far.
I’m an author (read more about my book Don’t Panic! A Practical Guide to Twins, Triplets and More on my book launch page), travel writer (you can read some of my articles here and digital entrepreneur. I’m Founder of Smart Steps to Australia – a website and Facebook community to UK families who are considering making the move to Australia. Check me out on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
I created this blog to share the fun side of having twins and it has evolved and grown over the years. Here you’ll find an eclectic mix of posts about family travel, memory making, having family fun and creating a family life that you love.
Meet the Bleakleys:
T1 (born November 2009)
Likes: Geckos, old skool computer games like Mario, swimming underwater a really long way (he is seriously like a fish!) and he wants to grow up to be a zoo keeper.
Hates: Being quiet, sitting still, being away from his brother and wearing shoes and socks.
T2 (born November 2009, three minutes later)
Likes: Colouring in for HOURS on end, building very elaborate dens, telling people what to do and jumping into our pool while shouting “cannonball”.
Hates: Any meat that isn’t sausages, being told what to do and having to take his elaborate dens down.
E (born September 2012)
Likes: All things Frozen, singing nursery rhymes very loudly and out of tune, doing roly polys underwater and eating crackers.
Hates: Having toys taken off her by her big brothers, tidying her room and going to bed.
Husband (age: not telling!)
Likes: Reading, beaches, sunshine, snorkelling, good food and wine, barbeques and stargazing.
Hates: Trains (I’ve no idea why!), finishing off DIY projects and being given cereal instead of a fry up on his days off.
Me (age: don’t ask!)
Likes: Writing, reading, beaches, sunshine, snorkelling, good food and wine, barbeques and stargazing (we make a perfect match).
Hates: Judgemental people, being told what to do (possibly where T2 gets it from), cold weather, regrets and sleepless nights.
What to expect from the TalesofaTwinMum blog (and what not to expect!)
First, I’d better begin with a list of what you won’t find on this blog…
I’m not trying to sell the perfect lifestyle, and I don’t publish photos of my kids looking angelic (they usually have mud, chocolate or sand on them, and sometimes all three). This isn’t a place to read how orderly our lives are, or how we’ve got the balance right. It’s not a place to be wowed by professional photography (although I’m trying hard to improve all the time!) and it’s definitely not a place to see me getting stuck into messy play or craft. It’s a blog about the adventures of real family life, with some (hopefully) useful and entertaining articles and occasional reviews thrown in for good measure. I’m really looking forward to sharing some of my entrepreneurial journey on this blog too as I develop my digital businesses and balance life as a work at home mum.
So that’s us. Welcome to my blog! Please come and leave comments, chat to me on Twitter, check out my sunny pictures on Instagram and visit my blog Facebook page to say hello – I’d love to hear from you!
Karen
