We moved to Brisbane!

Shipping your belongings abroad: Emigration tips & tricks
It's really happening! Family emigration update

I can’t quiet believe we did it! After over a year of talking about it, we finally moved to Brisbane.

Margate Beach in Brisbane

We arrived into Brisbane International Airport late on Thursday night, after being up for about 30 hours. We flew as direct as possible, with just a two-hour changeover in Singapore. The boys were absolute angels (yes, that completely shocked me too!) but unfortunately E screamed most of the second flight. Thankfully there were lots of friendly Aussie families aboard who did their best to make us feel better about the ear-splitting shrieks.

I’m sorry my blog has been so quiet lately but the last few weeks have been total chaos. Getting ready for the shippers was a full-time job, while looking after three under fives at the same time (another full-time job!) Then once we waved goodbye to our house in late August, we had to visit my family in Lincolnshire and my husband’s family in Hampshire while attending various leaving parties in between. All while trying to close accounts, sell our car and organise our arrival. It has been a complete whirlwind.

A boy hiding in a box

I’ve got so many blog post ideas backed up but don’t have much time to get them down until we’ve worked our way through some of our new ‘to do’ list (setting up Tax File Numbers, Medicare cards, changing over our driving licences, collecting our bank cards to name but a few…)

We’re staying in a holiday let for four weeks in the Brisbane suburb of Brighton. It’s a three bed place right on the waterfront where we can watch the kite surfers and cuddle the owners’ adorable labradoodle as often as we like (as they live next door). We’ve been enjoying the beach and the local parks in between trying to sort out the admin involved in setting up in a new country.

The kids are having the best ever time. Although they were worried about coming to Australia (T2 cried and told me he didn’t want to talk funny, and T1 was upset that he won’t be able to play with the spiders over here) they have no told me this is the best place ever. It makes all of the hard work worthwhile.

If you want to keep up with our adventure in more detail, you can follow my blog Facebook page  where I’m posting regular photos and updates on our journey, and on Instagram.

Thanks so much for all of the lovely good luck messages I’ve received. It really does mean a lot. This was such a huge step for us and while it might have come across as being quick and easy on my blog, it really has been a challenge that has taken every scrap of my energy. Now that we’re here, I can see it was worth all the effort.

Normal blogging service will be resumed shortly! In the meantime, wish Husband luck in finding that perfect job so we can start settling in properly.

Thanks lovely. I’ve really missed blogging! It’s great being able to put instant updates on my blog FB page so I’m making lots of use of that while I’m short on time. It’s such an exciting time – I’m loving every minute of it. xx

Thanks Mel. There aren’t that many spare minutes at the moment but hopefully with the next two weeks the worst will be over with. I can’t believe we’re really here! X

So very well done for making it out there! The paperwork and general kerfuffle of settling abroad is just astonishing, isn’t it. I’m so glad for you that you’re finding time to spend on the beach with the kids too. I can imagine it makes it all feel worth it. I’m following your journey on FB now too. x

Ah thanks. The poor kids get some beach time then get dragged on drives around areas for the next couple of hours – it’s all a balancing act at the moment but I’m hoping the paperwork will be mostly be done soon! I’ve just hopped over to your blog – it’s fab! I need to be more thrifty if we’re ever going to buy a house out here as it’s so easy to keep overspending when you move to a new place, so I’ll be following you! xx
