Looking back at the last post, I realise I didn’t give any context to how Lisa Congdon, Chair of Southampton Twins and Supertwins Club got involved in the #TeamHonkRelay. When I said she’d been ‘roped’ in, it actually couldn’t have been further from the truth (I didn’t have to tie her down til she agreed to help, honest), so I wanted to give you some background as a way of showing my thanks to her and the club.
When I realised our #TeamHonk blogger group was struggling to pull anything together in the short space of time we had, I searched for help in the first place I could think of – the local twin clubs. Although I’m not a member of STC, I know a few of their members and posted on their Facebook wall asking for volunteers. I had lots.
Details of the event were taken to the committee and within 24 hours I was speaking to Lisa on the phone (who I’d never met before) and explaining how this huge event needed to be organised in just over two weeks. She was super excited about the whole thing and reassured me it could be pulled off in such a short space of time, which was just what I needed to hear as I was starting to lose faith in how I was going to do it with hardly any spare time.
Within a couple of days we’d met and formed a long list of actions which neither of us really had time to deliver (but have somehow managed to!) She started to approach some of her many contacts to take on legs of the route, and she got lots of members of her twin club excited about the event too. She also spoke to the local press to get them on board with the event.
Although this is a blogger event and Lisa isn’t a blogger, she jumped on board without question and is determined to make this event a massive success.
I can’t thank her and the club enough. I’m so pleased to be part of this now and finally be able to see it all coming together.
You can read more about the background of the event in my previous post, but if you’d like to donate just follow the link below:
PS Our route has changed slightly and is now Southampton to Worthing, as the Worthing to Brighton leg has now been incorporated into the #TeamBrighton route.
Good luck – from another twin mum!
Thank you! Lots of sets of twins took part and it was fantastic! xx
All the very best.
Thank you – the event went beautifully! xx
