Taking twins on a self catering holiday to Cornwall

Are you a yummy mummy or a slummy mummy?

We had to trade our family holiday abroad this year with a UK break in Cornwall. My SIL decided to get married in the beautiful village of St. Agnes and it was too far to do in a day trip.

We’ve visited Cornwall lots over the years but have always struggled to find somewhere suitable to stay since having twins. When the boys were little, our biggest problem was finding somewhere that had a second bedroom large enough to accommodate two cots. Caravans and chalets were out as there just wasn’t the space to add cots. Hotels were expensive for a family on a budget and also didn’t give us the space and freedom we wanted and needed with young children. There were cottages to rent, but these tended to be expensive and usually came filled with nik-naks and breakable things, which as the boys started to crawl and toddle around meant a holiday filled with stress. My boys may be a bit older now (3.5), but taking young multiples on holiday can still be an exhausting experience, not to mention when you add a nine month old baby into the mix too.

As I was trying to find somewhere to stay for the wedding, I saw the advert for the Retallack Resort and Spa in the TAMBA magazine. It looked perfect; a resort that offered lots of facilities for families with 5* self catering accommodation. I was amazed to find out the marketing consultant for the resort followed me on Twitter and knew my blog, and she kindly invited me to come along to review the resort, specifically from the perspective of somebody with a young family that included multiples. I think it was the most exciting blogging moment I’ve ever had – well it was on an equal level as being shortlisted for the Loved By Parents Blogger of the Year awards (you still have time to vote!)

I’m writing this from our sunny dining room table at the resort (which is just as beautiful and idyllic as I’d imagined!) and have loads to tell you, so I’m going to do a couple of posts about it rather than trying to cram it into one epic post. I thought I’d also create a list of top tips for anyone who is planning on coming on holiday here, to help you get the best out of your experience.

For now though, I’ll leave you with a photo of our lovely semi-detached lodge. Watch this space for the full review which will follow shortly…
