Now the launch of Don’t Panic! A Practical Guide to Twins, Triplets and More is well underway (I’m getting some awesome feedback on it by the way!), it’s time for me to concentrate on my new business.
Smart Steps to Australia came to life at the end of last year when I was awarded a Queensland home-based business grant. The grant paid for a series of business coaching sessions with Jenna Black. The coaching helped me to identify the work I was doing that wasn’t filling me with joy and focus on the projects that got me fired up. What started out as a little sideline hustle quickly became something all-consuming and HUGE, and I’m SO excited.
And the great news is I’ve just been lucky enough to be awarded a second business grant which is going to help me bring my new business to life.
My shiny new website will be coming soon, but in the meantime I would love to share with you a link to a questionnaire that is going to help me shape the resources I create on the site.
I know that a few of my readers discovered my family blog after seeing my articles in Australia and New Zealand magazine in the UK as you’ve sent me some lovely emails. If you’re a UK family considering making the move to Australia, or if you’re in the process of applying for a visa, then I’d love for you to spend a couple of minutes completing this survey:
Smart Steps to Australia Survey
If you know of any friends or family who are considering moving, please share the link with them too. Every time I hit 50 responses, I’m going to draw a name at random to send them a copy of Lonely Planet Australia too.
I’d love for you to follow my new social media channels: I’m on Facebook and Instagram and its exciting to see follower numbers creeping up already after just a few days. It looks like there are quite a few people out there with a wanderlust for some glorious Aussie sunshine!
Thanks for your support, guys!
I’m linking this post up with Seychelles Mama for her #MyExpatFamily linky. Pop over and take a look at the other posts!
Hi Karen.
Is this just for families or are you interested in single people’s experience too? I’m not being funny about it, just curious. I assume your content will be mainly aimed at families, but singles experience many of the same issues, although maybe in a different way, and also other types of issues such as isolation and having to do everything themselves rather than as a team.
As you may have gathered, I’m contemplating a move by myself, although don’t know if it will be short or long-term. I enjoy all of your posts and understand that they come from your own experiences, but I wonder if this new project might be able to relate to singles too?
Jo
Hi Jo, Thanks so much for your comment. I totally get what you mean. I’m looking to really hone in on the family niche as there are lots of other general migration advice sites and blogs out there (BobinOz is the best there is!) and I wanted mine to be more tailored to a very specific audience to set it apart from the others. It’s not to say that single people, backpackers or couples without kids don’t face challenges too as I know they do – it’s just that I wanted to try to break down the complications that affect families in particular as it’s something I feel really passionate about. I know that before we had kids, my husband and I found it easy to decide to take a year out to go backpacking around Australia and New Zealand, but deciding to bring our three kids out here permanently took us five years and many sleepless nights to decide. Kids just complicate things, in a good way!
There will still be lots of content you’ll find relevant on the new site, so I hope to see you over there when it launches! And please shout if there is anything I can help you with as you decide whether to make the move over here. You can always email me karen@talesofatwinmum.com.
