I’ve been a bit quiet lately because I’ve been beavering away trying to devise a plan for our leg of the Team Honk relay. The dates were only announced over Christmas, and by the time I returned from my Christmas break visiting family it was already 2014 and time was beginning to tick away fast!
In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll elaborate… Last year, three inspirational bloggers went to Ghana to blog and tweet for Comic Relief and help raise money and awareness. This year, the same bloggers have decided to create an epic event for Sport Relief. You can read all about the Team Honk ladies here .
They’ve divided the country into chunks and bloggers have signed up to co-ordinate each part of the relay. The aim is to travel, where ever possible, without using motorised transport and we can recruit non bloggers to get involved, which means roping in as many favours as possible from anyone we’ve ever met (if you know me and live locally, expect a call or email at any moment!)
The event kicks off this Sunday in Cornwall…and the baton will be travelling from SOUTHAMPTON TO WORTHING ON SATURDAY 18 AND SUNDAY 19 JANUARY Read Team Honk’s masterplan to find out where the baton will be on different dates.
Our route: Southampton to Worthing
I’ve managed to rope in the help of Lisa Congdon (Chair of Southampton Twins and Supertwins Club) and she’s (thankfully!) taking on lots of the organising and press for the event because it’s an enormous task and I was starting to panic! Between us, it’s starting to come together beautifully.
We have boats, twin families, a sports car, a ferry, a couple of amazing marathon runners, horses, manicures, children’s television characters and lots more in the pipeline. Plus Mammasaurus happens to live down the road in Southampton, so I’m sure she’ll be making an appearance at times too. The full schedule will be announced very soon. In addition to Southampton Twins Club (who have been most fantastic), we also have confirmed support from Quay Fifteen (a new bar opening soon at Shamrock Quay) TJ Marine, B&Q Fareham and Mini Multiples Twins Club with more to follow…
Our online donation page has just launched! Any money you donate will show as our team’s total, so please give as generously as you can!
If anyone would like to get involved in any way at all, please email karen.bleakley@yahoo.co.uk. We’ve managed to cover the route now but we need more businesses and organisations to get involved to help us raise money and spread the word about the event. Please share this post, share our donation link and help support a fantastic cause!
